The Resuscitation Council (UK) Advanced Life Support (ALS) course is a standardised national course teaching evidence-based resuscitation guidelines and skills to healthcare professionals in the United Kingdom. Course fee includes course manual, lunches and refreshments. ILS was launched in 2002 as there was a demand from healthcare professionals to know the skills needed to respond in an emergency. It is now the most popular Resuscitation Council UK course, and around 100,000 people are trained in ILS every year.
The one-day e-ALS consists of approx. 7 hours of e-learning for candidates to study at their own pace ahead of the one-day face-to-face training.

The one-day e-ALS is useful for those with less study leave available or for those who wish to recertify. However, we do advise that those candidates applying for the e-ALS should have completed an ILS course previously.
Criteria for attending an ALS Course – Candidates must be qualified healthcare professionals who would be expected to apply the skills taught as part of their clinical duties, or teach them on a regular basis. Appropriate participants include doctors and senior nurses working in critical care areas (e.g. ED, CCU, ICU, HDU, operating theatres, acute medical admissions units) or in the resuscitation/medical emergency team, and paramedics. Applications must include a valid GMC or NMC number and prior competence in CPR is an essential prerequisite to attending the course. Medical students, nurses and other healthcare providers not covered in the groups above should first complete the Immediate Life Support (ILS) course.
