Akito pays a surprise visit, causing a commotion for the rest of the family. Shigure takes a stroll down memory lane with an old friend, remembering the days when Hatori wasn't so aloof. Meanwhile, Tohru begins to wonder: What must life be like for the loved ones of a cursed member of the Sohma family? Can life with this family truly be happy while bearing such a burden?

What an intriguing volume! Seriously, now I really wish I would have borrowed number 11 and 12 as well.

Such a cliff-hanger! TTHighlights of this volume:”I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Kisa. I have to become a man who can make you happy.”Hiro and Kisa are sooo damn adorable! I CAN'T BELIEVE SOME OF THE STUFF THAT HAPPENED IN THIS VOLUME!!! IT UPSETS ME SO MUCH TO SEE CRAP LIKE THIS HAPPENING! Okay, so we could basically blame all that is happening on Akito.

That little spoiled, no good, self-centered, little schmuck needs to get his eyes stabbed out. He needs to be beaten into a bloody pulp! He needs to get shot multiple times, thrown off an 18th story building, and then run over by a pogo stick! That's how bad he pissed me off in this volume! I have no idea UGH!!!

He needs to be beaten into a bloody pulp! He needs to get shot multiple times, thrown off an 18th story building, and then run over by a pogo stick! That's how bad he pissed me off in this volume! I have no idea why they allow him to get away with all of the things he does!

What a selfish little-OOO!!!.Slaps self.nope! Not even that was able to calm me! I'm so upset that this had to be the first thing I talked about instead of how I normally do things in my reviews.Sighs. So yeah.

It was a great volume just because of how it makes me feel all icky. Not to say the entire volume was awful (in a good way). What I liked about this volume was Takaya-sensei giving us little tidbits on the lesser known characters of the series.

That was actually pretty cool to read. I mean, it's not like you must know these facts in order to continue with the plot but I love how Takaya-sensei gives more life to her characters. No matter how small a role her characters have, as long as she brings them to life, she's going to make sure they live.

It's a nice feeling knowing that this mangaka doesn't let any of her characters 'die.' And holy crap!

This whole story is making me go nuts! I cannot believe some of the stuff that she came up with! It literally makes me want to run into a wall because of how excited/nervous/upset/WAH!!!

I get reading it. I kinda just want to keep asking the question, 'WHY!?' But that wouldn't be fun.

In any case, this one really made me go nuts!I think what I loved most about this particular volume was seeing more of Hatori. Oh, yes I always loves seeing me some Hatori It's revealed that he and Mayuko, Tohru's teacher, actually knew each other for quite some time! Shocking, ne? Well, getting to know Mayu some more was pretty epic.

I like her a lot. I feel bad for what she had to go through.

Man, no one wants to have those feelings. 🐯 This volume is Kisa! 🐯Finally it is summer vacation for Tohru and the Sohma's!

And what better way to spend the sunny weather than at one of the Sohma's many vacation homes by the beach? Hiro and Kisa come along to join Tohru, Yuki, Kyo, Momiji and Haru, as well as Hatori and Shigure. But unfortunately, the fun of hunting stag beatles and having swimming races at the beach comes to a hult when Akito decides to visit as well. His purpose for this sudden invitation by himself?

But unfortunately, the fun of hunting stag beatles and having swimming races at the beach comes to a hult when Akito decides to visit as well. His purpose for this sudden invitation by himself? Bullying to assert his power of course. Is there anything else he does?I love love loved this volume! Which is a given, of course.

It was fun to get another story about Hatori, who is such a beloved character with a broken heart. Some new positivity in his life was heartwarming to read, and I smile just thinking about the snippet of hope there is for his future. Kyo and Tohru had more scenes (swoon) and Kisa and Momiji were too adorable to handle. Now please, next volume, can Tohru meet Rin? I know it is coming up and I need my gorgeous Rin to come into the story, finally! Her story arc is freaking amazing and I need it now!🐑 Next volume is Hiro!

Is Kisa not cute on the cover? She really reminds me of Tohru with the way she is drawn. So volumes 10 and 11 really pick up the pace, I find I read these two back to back, even knowing how this bit of the plot plays out I find myself needing to read about it immediately.Even before Akito comes into play the whole sea-side vacation has a dark undertone, which is pretty much due to Hiro - I am very glad that Kyo has a word with him, he needed it. The subplot with Hatori is an interesting break from this, it was hinted at a couple of volumes ago but if you aren't observant to the images you could have overlooked it. The ending of this volume is the reason why I originally shipped Tohru and Yuki, but knowing how the series ends up you can see even here that Yuki loves Tohru in a different way to the others. And one other character in particular.Treating this as a 'two-parter' with volume 11, I think this is the weaker of the two but it is still one of the stronger entries from the first half of this series.

I'm already to volume 10?!? How'd that happen? Anyway, here are the notes I took while reading:- I'm glad Mayu and Hatori get together someday.

Hatori deserves to be happy, after what he's been through. Shigure and his tricks, though! I would've been just as mad as Mayu was!- Stupid Akito coming to the summer home and bringing everyone down.- I wonder if Kureno enjoys being around Akito or if he'd prefer to be free to go outside the Sohma complex like the others. I can't remember who that is.Guess I'll have to keep reading to find out!Reread of volume 10 complete. Volume 11, here I come! Okay, I have finally read the tenth volume of the “Fruits Basket” series by Natsuki Takaya and I really enjoyed this volume!

In this volume, Tohru and the Sohma family all go to the Sohmas’ family summerhouse and are having a great time having fun, however their fun comes to an abrupt halt when.gasps. Akito comes for a surprise visit!

Will Hatori ever find his true happiness again?I really enjoyed this volume in the fantastic “Fruits Basket” series by Natsuki Takaya and more secrets are exposed in this volume that might change the characters’ worlds forever! At this point, I really love the relationship that Tohru has with the Sohma family as the Sohmas accept her as part of their family since they let her come with them to their family summerhouse and that just makes me really love the Sohma family even more!

I also loved that there are more moments between Kyo and Tohru as they talk about their parental issues and I just love the fact that Kyo just easily talks about his life with Tohru in such a casual manner that it makes me think if there is really something special between Tohru and Kyo! I also love the moments between Tohru and Yuki also as it seems that Yuki really does have a crush on Tohru and I love the sweet moments between them. The story about how Hatori copes with losing his girlfriend and finding a friend in Mayuko Shiraki, who is Tohru’s teacher, is really emotional and I got the chance of learning more about Mayuko in this volume and how she was involved with Hatori and Shigure and I hope things go well between Hatori and Mayuko. As it is with nearly the entire “Fruits Basket” series, there are some sad scenes in this book including the death of Kyo’s mother and the sadness that Hatori suffers when he lost his first girlfriend. Anyone who also had a situation where they lost a loved one might be in tears when they read this volume.Overall, “Fruits Basket: Volume 10” is a truly emotional volume that anyone who has lost a loved one will easily love this volume! I been having pretty lukewarm feelings in rereading this series, but I guess as a disclaimer I have to say that even at the height of Fruits Basket Fever, I was pretty much at normal temperature.

It's cute for sure but there are things about the story that never really resonated with me now and even back then.I know this is probably a blasphemous thing to say, but I've never really liked Tohru as a character. She feels underdeveloped and flat to me. You get a peek of depth in this volume, but th I been having pretty lukewarm feelings in rereading this series, but I guess as a disclaimer I have to say that even at the height of Fruits Basket Fever, I was pretty much at normal temperature. She feels underdeveloped and flat to me. You get a peek of depth in this volume, but then she goes back to being cheerful, naive, silly and super polite.

I know that her character is supposed to be endearing and make you go 'awwwww' but because she feels so 2D to me I find her kind of obnoxious and it makes me groan. I know lots of people will disagree with me, but I think she comes off as unrealistic and it becomes hard for me not to become slightly put off by her. There's cute and then there's you're-trying-too-hard. And for me, the author has tried so hard to make her cute that it feels insincere and I feel like I'm being played.

After 10 volumes, it has gotten to the point where it really bothers me and might make the rest of the series slow work as I would probably take breaks in between volumes.I'm glad that the story is moving along though; getting more information about the curse and everything and how everyone fits into this dysfunctional family is exciting plot development.WARNING spoilers for This and potentially other Volumes and Fruits Basket Another.(Sidenote: The cover of this volume is Kisa-chan! Anyway-)By the sea, by the sea, by the beautiful sea.I don't know why, but I always love anime/manga 'beach' episodes. Maybe it's just fun to watch the characters let their hair down and see how they interact in a super laid back environment. Incidentally this volume starts off with and contains a handful of some of my favorite Tohru/Kyo interactions.

I love seeing them have fun together and take care of one another. (Seriously, in re-reading this, I can't help but think they really are so well suited for one another.)In this volume we get to watch everyone have fun- until Shigure mentions the trip to Akito and goads the head of the family until Akito decides he too needs to go to the beach to 'teach them a lesson'. Not the only thing he gets up to in this volume, but we'll touch on that in a minute).Ugh. Akito really is a despicable character in my eyes.

I mean, I know there is reasons behind his behavior, and we'll get into those in later volumes but even so. His actions toward and treatment of his fellow Juunishi are/is just disgusting.Highlights of this volume are Hiro tries more to win over Kisa. And fails miserably. Even so, with some prodding from the others and some soul searching, he learns a bit more and realizes he is going to have to do some more maturing; and this not a moment too soon, because he find out his mother is pregnant again!

(As a side note, Hiro's Mama also makes my list of Top Furuba Parents because she is so darn sweet. As Momiji says 'When she first held Hiro and it was discovered he was the Ram, she smiled and said 'I love sheep!' You go, Satsuki-San!)MEANWHILE Yuki had been very pensive the whole trip and when Akito shows up he reaches a turning point in his thoughts: He needs to tell Tohru how he feels. The volume ends with him kissing Tohru on the forehead and Yuki thinking 'I love you' while he rests his head on Tohru's shoulder and tears drip down his face.

It is a very bitter-sweet scene. And speaking of bitter sweet: We come to the main section of this volume and one of my favorite subplots! Up until now it has been thought that only Hatori (and a prying Momiji) have held the painful memories of Hatori's relationship with Kana and its tragic end. Turns out, that is not true. Kana's best friend is none other than Mayu-Sensei-Chan!I love this character. She seems no-nonsense and sardonic, but all that is just to cover her incredibly big and warm heart. She really does care about her students, her family, and above all her friends. What she can't stand is to be emotionally manipulated.

From the moment Kana introduces Hatori to Kana, she is head over heals in love with him. (I absolutely can not blame her. If I had to pick a Furuba guy to marry, I would definitely choose Hatori!) However, Hatori was dating Kana, and such was Mayu's respect and admiration for her friend she keep her own feelings under tight wraps. She treasures the sight of their happiness and wants to make sure nothing spoils it. (Good on her!).

During that time she is approached by Shigure, who annoyingly sees through her brave facade. Even more annoyingly, in my humble opinion, he asks Mayu if she would like to go out with him. 'You just want someone to go out with right?

It doesn't matter who. And I've been.

Much to her future dismay, Mayu agrees. However the relationship is a sham from start to finish. Shigure is just 'with' Mayu never actually treating her as a girlfriend. Meanwhile Kana and Hatori's relationship continues to bloom until the horrible day when it all falls apart. Shigure helps Mayu sneak into the Sohma estate and she finds Kana, emotionally shattered and physically ill.

The steadfast Mayu comforts Kana as best she can, but is heartbroken when she realizes the beautiful scene she has so long coveted is indeed a thing of the past and will never come back. Eventually, Kana seems to improve, much to Mayu's shock and she forces Shigure to reveal the cause: 'memory suppression.' The fact that it was Hatori himself who was forced to erase all Kana's memories of their time together is almost more than Mayu can stand. Even so, she stays by her dear friend and eventually things get better.Kana gets married and according to Shigure, Hatori has a new girlfriend, 'Satsuki' (dangitShigure). (Sidenote: Sensei does get to dump Shigure's butt not once, but twice in this. It is very satisfying!) Mayu does her best to feel relieved that her best friend and the man she once loved has both found happiness, but still feels miserable. Shigure keeps on poking this wound and eventually tricks Hatori into showing up at the bookshop owned by Mayu's family.

Mayu and Hatori share some adorable awkward chemistry, but the former notices her once and future crush does not seem like a man happily in love. When she asks him about it, Hatori says that 'Happiness is not for him.' Unable to accept that there can be no happiness in the world for such a wonderful person, Mayu bursts into loud, unashamed tears.

Her emotional display moves Hatori, who can't believe someone would cry so earnestly for him. The comic itself ends on a rather ambiguous note, but it is suggested heavily that Mayu and Hatori start dating and perhaps even get married one day.I am happy to report that as of 'Fruits Basket Another' this is totally true. They were probably the first of the Furuba couples to tie the knot! Ah, this is the best one of the series so far! After thinking about Tohru Honda's cap and his childhood, when he was confined by Akito, Yuki Sohma tells Tohru there is something he needs to tell her but is not yet ready to. When Hiro Sohma is jealous of Tohru, Hatsuharu Sohma points out that when he lashes out at her it makes Kisa Sohma nervous, which only irritates Hiro more. Before going to the beach house, Shigure visits the bookshop where his ex-girlfriend, Mayuko Shiraki, helps out, and she remembers in flashback her best friend's (Kana Sohma) former engagement to Hatori Sohma. Shigure asks Mayuko about her secret crush on Hatori and then manipulates Hatori into meeting her, during which meeting she admits she still likes him.Akito arrives at the beach and stays in a separate house, where he has all the zodiac animals but the cat attend him.

Akito tells Yuki not to get foolish ideas, such as thinking he might escape, and in response Shigure tells Hatori that Yuki is no longer what Akito believes. When Yuki meets Tohru afterwards, he mentions again that he is slowly opening up and kisses her forehead, and admits to himself, but not to her, that he loves her. This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Natsuki Takaya. For the most part, I really liked the direction of the narrative. It is good to see the reserved Yuki Somha opening up and to see a different life than to be in service and fear of Akito Sohma. Speaking of which, it is rather interesting, albeit a tad disconcerting to see the hierarchy of the Sohma family – especially when it comes to the lives of the cursed Zodiac members. All in all, Fruits Basket, Vol.

10 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more. At almost half-way through the series, I'd like to point out a few observations on this re-read.This is were I'm hoping the plot is going to pick up. It keeps hinting at the bigger picture without really seeing it.I have a soft spot for the characters, but because there's so many I feel we don't know any overly well yet.Akito is this big fear in the for the Sohma's- I can't remember why at this point other than some acts of violence that hasn't been explained thus far.

At this point I don't fear him, as I don't think we've really been shown the power he has- or any reason or motivation to why he's portrayed to be as 'evil' as he is.Okay, Shigure is really fucking creepy.

In this volume alone (even if he claims it's a joke- it's not funny in the slightest) he comments he only came to the summer house to see the swimsuits (referring to the girls) where the only girls is Tohru and Kisa- Kisa who is like 12! It's disgusting and inappropriate. And I don't know if it's just that Japan have a different culture, or a translation issue or what- but they why they talk about dating is strange. They always say Tohru to do on 'dates' with the boys- where it's really just leaving the house alone with a boy with no real romantic intentions- at least that's not the impression I get.In this volume, someone refers to Shigure as an 'ex-boyfriend' despite never having kissed or held each other- they just spent time together. Um, isn't that just being friends?

Girls and guys can be friends and spend time alone without them 'dating' or being on a 'date'. I know asexuality is a thing- and completely valid form of relationship- but I don't get the impression either of the characters in question are asexual considering what I remember about them later in the series. So, I'm still enjoying this series- but I see a bunch of issues with it I was blind to before. However, I'm hoping it will only get better as it goes on as I do plan to complete this re-read.This volume and the last in particular have been picking up in pace. Guh, the punches keep rolling when it comes to angst and trouble for the Sohmas and friends. As I mentioned in a previous review, Natsuki takes the time to develop all the characters we encounter in the series, including the teacher of Tohru, Yuki, and Kyo.

This added story makes the series that much more interesting, but it does break my heart that some of the characters have to go through such hardships before they can be happy.Akito also makes another appearance in the story, along with Kureno Guh, the punches keep rolling when it comes to angst and trouble for the Sohmas and friends. As I mentioned in a previous review, Natsuki takes the time to develop all the characters we encounter in the series, including the teacher of Tohru, Yuki, and Kyo. This appearance of Akito reminds me how much I hate them and how I wish the younger Sohmas didn't have to deal with this dark cloud, but every happy story must have an antagonist to drive the plot along. There's also a wonderful ending to this volume that makes my heart soar, even if I know that what happens won't necessarily happen between the two characters involved. Still, it's nice to see some of the Sohmas are able to open up more and that they're not afraid to admit to themselves how they feel and react to the environment around them. Another cute volume in the series! With everyone on Summer Vacation, the Soma family and Tohru head to one of the families beach houses!

Lots of the standard and expected cute moments, but with way more plot than ever before! The groundwork that Takaya has been laying since book one is finally coming into play and you can see the characters reaching for certain goals, even though you are clueless as to what those goals are. Honestly Tohru’s friendship with kyo and yuki are my life right nowwwww!!!! I’m a little freaked out that yuki might tell tohru he loves her of something because I’m a hardcore kyohru shipper you feel me?? Also shigure is the saddest zodiac member and it’s killing me because I love him so much!! I’m loving the fact that he’s like a puppet master to tohru and Kyos relationship, which almost makes him bad, but I feel like he’s doing it for good, to end the curse.

This is a nostalgia series for me. There are definitely flaws and some things that don't hold up now as the series grows older, but it remains one of my favorite manga of all time (hence why it'll get five stars regardless). The characters are engaging, beautiful, multilayered, and wonderful. Seeing their journeys grow and change really hits me. There are some pages in the later volumes that really, really hit me hard even now and flash me back to that time when I first read them. This is defini This is a nostalgia series for me. Story:Battle Royale (バトル・ロワイアル, Batoru rowaiaru) is a serialized manga, written by Koushun Takami and Masayuki Taguchi. It is based on the novel of the same name, and was published in Japan by Akita Publishing. The manga consists of 15 volumes and is distributed in English by Tokyopop. There is a manga sequel called Battle Royale II: Blitz Royale. At October 2007, a new special edition of the manga will be released. The manga follows the plot of the novel fairly closely, but also expands on the backstory of each of the students.

It is also far more sexually graphic than the novel and film versions, and is also noted for its intense, gory violence. The name of the main character is transliterated as Shuya Nanahara in this version. Also, the English adaptation of manga changes the time that the story is set in by almost 10 years, using the term 'in the near future', but on Shogo Kawada's profile, it references the program 2005 season; he says his last program was a year ago, leading to the assumption that the manga sets the story in 2006. In volume one of the English language version, Shinji Mimura and the news channel reporter mentions the 2007 record of three days, seven hours and twenty-two minutes. In volume 14 Kamon refers to the 2009 season, which is presumably the 2009 one. None of those dates are mentioned in the original Japanese edition.

Apparently they were devised by Keith Giffen during the adaptation (see below) along with many other details non-existent in the original. The manga revolves around seven main characters, including the righteous Shuya Nanahara, the gentle and caring Noriko Nakagawa, the hardened veteran Shogo Kawada, the athletic hacker Shinji Mimura, the kind-hearted kung fu master Hiroki Sugimura, the troubled Mitsuko Souma, and the cold, merciless Kazuo Kiriyama. As of January 2006, all 15 volumes have been released in Japan. In the US and UK all 15 of the volumes have been released as of April 2006.
